Why would you study a ‘useless’ subject?

While talk of robots and being human is the regular soundtrack at FixEd, the immediate challenges of assessment and paid work are more likely to influence subject choice. We all need reassurance that the choices we make will benefit us, as well as the world. Our point of view? Creativity is emotional. Nurturing the ingenious problem solvers of tomorrow won’t be done through rigid assessment and purging our education system of the arts. And we’re not alone: the FT promotes ‘useless subjects‘, Stanford is working on ethics for coders, and the Guardian puts a value to relationship skills.
